The team meets back up with June, letting her know what happened with the Cloudbuster Incident. She relays the information to the Bureau as soon as possible, and the Bureau came and helped with damage control. Things have calmed down for a week or so, but that’s about to come to a close, as one Brennan Clarke has transferred into the team’s Biology class. But before anything comes of that, the Bureau has the team spend the weekend at their headquarters in Seattle to fully debrief them on what’s going on. What was supposed to be a simple, relaxing weekend has quickly become frightening, however, as something deep in the Bureau’s archives has seemingly awakened, threatening the very foundation of the Bureau itself.

Folktales, urban legends, and even our greatest fears all rely on one thing: That’s right. Belief! The more people believe in something, the more power it gains. This power, known as Sonder, exists all around us. Once Sonder has been poured into a specific belief, that belief can exist in the material plane as long as it has enough people around believing in it strongly. These events, known as Anomalous Faith Incidents (AFIs), can be disastrous if left alone for too long. Culver exists in a long-form AFI, referred to as the Timber Expanse. In the Timber Expanse, enough people believe in the existence of supernatural phenomena that AFIs are more likely to occur. There are other AFIs like it around the globe, none of which can be dealt with directly. Instead, groups like the Bureau of Unnatural Research and Prevention (BURP) work to monitor these locations if an uptick in AFI activity occurs. But fear not! That’s why you’re here! With your skills and our support, you can help make sure the Bureau keeps the world safe from any threats thrown your way.

(Please note: The Bureau of Unnatural Research and Prevention is not liable for any workplace accidents including: turning into a zombie, having your soul drained from a ghost, the possible chance of just seeing Bigfoot, being abducted by aliens, death, being forced to feel the pain of a thousand deaths, having your very being scattered across the universe, having your kidneys stolen, and slipping on wet floors.)

And remember! A sign of a BURP is a sign of a job well done.

COUNTDOWN

DAY: The team shows up to the Bureau, expecting nothing wrong.

SHADOWS: Agent Stafford tells Connolly to go down to the Archive, as Connolly has a book that was set aside for him. While down there, Connolly activates the CK by opening up that book, conveniently left on the front desk of the Archive.

DUSK: The CK activates, slowly taking over the Archive. It’s no longer safe to explore there. Connolly runs away, barely making it out with his life.

SUNSET: The Bureau is under attack from the inside. Agents are dying or being possessed left and right.

NIGHTFALL: Agent Connolly sees Agent Stafford, and Stafford reveals that he’s the Avatar of the CK. Stafford kills Connolly. The Bureau is fully overrun.

MIDNIGHT: The CK generates enough Sonder from the information and people around it that it can break out of the confines of the Bureau. The CK harnesses the power of the Timber Expanse to possess all those who oppose it and it bends reality to whatever it so chooses
